Abbie and Eric Maslin - Hakarat Hatov Award

Abbie and Eric Maslin moved into the West Hempstead community in the summer of 1999.  Eric grew up in West Hempstead, as part of an active family at the Young Israel.  When Eric and Abbie moved back, they were greeted by the warm, friendly, easy going atmosphere of Anshei Shalom, and they quickly became members.

Abbie, a speech therapist, immediately joined the Anshei Shalom Chessed committee, which was formed to provide food and other necessities to families in need.  She has been an active volunteer for the Chessed committee  for more than 20 years.  More recently, Abbie was one of the earliest members of our CSS team and recruited her son Matthew to join as well.

Eric, a teacher, has been the director of our Teen Program for over 10 years.  The job “keeps him young” as he coordinates events like Teen Takeover Shabbos, Shabbos onegs, kiddushes, and teen programming for Simchas Torah and Purim.  Eric also played a major role in the emergency effort to spread out our Yamim Noraim davening this year by undertaking leadership of minyanim, davening wherever there was need, and training some of our newest Baalei Tefillot.

Eric and Abbie are proud to have long-standing personal relationships with Anshei Rebbeim.   Rabbi Pearl has been a great family friend to them for years.  They have known Rabbi and Rebitzen Soniker since they were cabin neighbors at Camp Mesora in 2009.  While the Maslins are being given the Hakarat Hatov Award, they would like to give a large Hakarat Hatov to Rabbi Pearl and Rabbi and Rebitzen Soniker for their personal guidance and community leadership.

“We’ve been fortunate enough to create and maintain many friendships here in West Hempstead, and that’s due to the warm nature of the community at large, and specifically to Anshei.  We are thrilled to accept the Hakarat Hatov award and be a part of the Anshei Dinner this year.”
