Rachel Scheer - Youth Leadership Award

Rachel lives in West Hempstead and has been a member of Anshei Shalom from the day she was born. She started going to youth groups every Shabbos at the age of 3. She always participated in the various youth activities as a child, including Parent Child Learning and holiday events including the annual Purim and Chanukah parties.

In 2015 she became an assistant group leader in the nursery room, working her way up to become head nursery group leader a few years later. She then moved up to the K1 girls room and was a leader there until the end of 2023. Having participated and worked in the youth department, Rachel understands the importance of a place in Shul where children have their own space to daven, learn Torah and play games. She has spent Shabbos mornings and most chaggim with the children of Anshei being a role model for them with her exemplary middot, personal attention and unwavering dedication to each child. She has been an inspiration for many kids who have now grown up to be responsible leaders themselves. Rachel cannot walk in shul or around the neighborhood without the girls calling her name, waving, and smiling.

Rachel attended HANC from Toddlers to 609 elementary school through middle school. She then attended Midreshet Shalhevet High School for Girls, graduating in 2020. During high school she volunteered at the Gottesman Learning Center Sunday Smiles Program, working with children with developmental disabilities. She was also a member of NCSY Jewish Unity Mentoring Program (JUMP) where she collaborated with other high school students to create positive change in their schools and communities.

Rachel is currently a senior at Long Island University/C.W. Post obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Digital Art and Design. She was a creative intern at BodyArmor Sports Nutrition|Powerade in the summer of 2023 producing social media graphics, merchandise and promotional content.

A personal note from Rachel:
I am honored to accept this award and would like to express hakarat hatov to my family and friends for their continuous and steady love and support. Mazel tov to the other honorees who work tirelessly on behalf of our shul to make Anshei a better place. A special thank you to Rabbi and Rebbitzen Soniker and Rabbi Pearl for their continued guidance to our family and to the leaders of our youth department for making Anshei a great place to grow and learn each and every week.
