Dov and Shoshana Traum - Keter Torah Award

Shoshana and Dov Traum along with their children, Elana and Gaby, are long-time residents of West Hempstead and have been members of Anshei for almost 15 years. Not long after the Traums moved to West Hempstead, Dov’s brother, sister, and parents joined the neighborhood as well. Shoshana, Dov, Elana and Gaby actively support and volunteer their time for Anshei and several neighborhood and national organizations.

Dov grew up in Queens where he attended Queens College. A plumber who runs his own company in Manhattan, Dov served on the Anshei Board for four years. He was instrumental in reinstating minyanim in the shul once Covid lockdowns were lifted, and saw to it that the minyanim were full, among many other tasks that a shul requires day to day. He was also heavily involved in the shul’s most recent construction and building fundraising. Dov enjoys attending minyanim at Anshei, and has been a long standing member of the Anshei security team and Anshei Brotherhood, where he is currently the reigning cholent champion.

Shoshana was born in Norfolk, Virginia and grew up in Kingston, Pennsylvania. She eventually
followed some of her siblings to Brooklyn, where she attended Borough of Manhattan Community College. Shoshana is a stay at home mother who actively volunteers in several organizations, including the National Council for Jewish Women, where she and Dov counsel people who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss. Through their work with Ohel, the Traums have fostered children who are in need of caring homes. They continuously open their home to dogs who need a place to stay for Shabbat or the week. Shoshana also volunteers on Anshei’s chessed committee, preparing meals for those in need, and is a member of the Anshei security team, keeping our children safe in the youth trailer. The Anshei sukkah hop always includes a stop at the Traum’s Sukkah for a simcha-filled stop and great snacks.

Over the years, Shoshana has volunteered much of her time at HANC, where her girls began in the Toddlers program and currently attend middle school and high school. She organized school pictures for many years and served terms as vice president and president for the PTA. She can always be counted on in a pinch to pick up a sick child from school when called upon by friends.

Shoshana and Dov are grateful to Hashem for guiding them to West Hempstead. Elana and Gaby have spent over a decade at the Bodies in Motion dance studio, where Elana is now an assistant instructor. Both girls also participated in Friendship circle, where they spent time with children in the community who were in need of a friend. Shoshana and Dov have cultivated meaningful relationships with Rabbi Perl and Rabbi and Rebetzin Soniker, who are always there to answer halachic questions and listen to any concerns and topics. They consider Anshei and West Hempstead fortunate to have them as leaders.

The Traums would like to express their appreciation to the Anshei board and the dinner committee for selecting them for this honor and wish a hearty Mazel Tov to the Stulbergers, Laura Eisner and Rachel Scheer for their well-deserved honors. Finally, they are incredibly thankful to everyone who contributed to the shul and this dinner on their behalf.
