Aryeh & Shani Herschberg - Hakarat Hatov Award

Aryeh and Shani moved to West Hempstead in 2002 and were immediately welcomed by Anshei and the West Hempstead community.  They soon got involved in Anshei, with Shani eventually becoming a Sisterhood Board member and President, and Aryeh serving 11 years on the Shul Board as Treasurer and then Secretary. Aryeh is currently serving on the Building Fundraising Committee and has been active in other behind the scenes functions.  (In addition, per Mitch Orlofsky, Aryeh is the resident expert on the shul constitution -- perhaps because he is one of the four people to have ever read it.)

Shani continues to take an active role whenever she is needed. She planned the first ever and now very popular Anshei Sisterhood Trivia Night and chairs the Sisterhood Mishloach Manot Committee, which she has been extremely involved with for years. She heads up an Anshei Chessed Committee team to arrange meals for those in need and also plays an integral role on the shul’s Welcoming Committee, delivering welcome gifts to new families that moves into the neighborhood.  Shani is very involved in HANC, currently serving on the Board of Education and as Membership VP for the PTA. She has also been the School Clubs Committee Chairperson for the last five years, and gladly volunteers for other functions when asked.  Volunteering her time for the community-at-large, Shani is also a member of the West Hempstead Simcha Connection.

Shani and Aryeh are proud parents to Grace and Ava who attend HANC Middle School and 609 respectively. Aryeh is a lawyer and works as a Vice President of Tax at CA Technologies. Shani is a special education teacher working with agencies as a SEIT and EI provider, but the job she loves best is being the loudest and proudest cheerleader at her children’s sporting events and swim meets.

"We want to thank Rabbi Soniker and Rabbi Pearl for making Anshei such a warm and welcoming Shul.  We would also like to thank our parents and grandparents who instilled in us a love and appreciation for Jewish communal life. We are so grateful for our friends in Anshei who make West Hempstead the only place we want to live.  We know that our friends can be counted on when we need them and are so grateful to have them, and Anshei in our lives. We are proud to accept this honor."
