Teresa Rivera
Teresa Rivera - Distinguished Service Award
When Teresa Rivera began working for an Anshei Family 20 years ago, she could never have foreseen her eventual rise to a prominent role within that family herself. “I had no idea how it would work. I started at the Hamadas - I didn’t have any idea about Judaism,” Teresa shares. And yet the whole of Anshei proudly celebrates with her tonight as she is awarded the shul’s Distinguished Service Award for her years of hard work and dedication to the shul and our community. “I learned,” Teresa continues, “and I love what I do.”
Teresa’s family members all reside in her native Guatemala, including her son, daughter-in-law, three grandchildren ages 18, 21 and 25, and sisters and nephews. She takes great pride, however, in her adopted Anshei family. “I see the babies at the bris. Then they are big boys at their bar mitzvahs. Then they get married. I have so many grandchildren,” she says.
Every aspect of our shul building, every kiddush and every shul function is enhanced by Teresa’s loving dedication to our members and our shul. With an expanded shul building on our horizon, Anshei looks forward to marching into our future with Teresa by our side.
“Never expected the shul to be this big,” Teresa notes. “I love the people, the kids. G-d is in that building.”
